Friday Part 4 - Iolani Palace (Continued)

August 10, 2012

Here is the rest of Iolani palace and grounds that I experienced.

Here are some of the items that are not able to be placed in the palace above due to deterioration or other factors. These are contained in rooms int he basement behind protected cases.

These are some of the Queen's jewels on display.
This is a diamond butterfly brooch with movable wings work by Queen Liliuokalani for Queen Victoria of England's Diamond Jubilee.

The left is tiger claw jewelry worn by the royal princesses. This was very popular once the Queen of England became Empress of India.
There are a lot of military and state medallions and chains of office. I Just took photos of a couple.

The storage areas for the kitchen items, furnishings and dishes are behind glass.
The side of Iolani Palace at night.
The front of Iolani Palace at night.

The armory was moved stone by stone to the location where a smaller family residence called the "Pink Bungalow" previously stood. The Pink Bungalow was where the royal family stayed the majority of the time, living in a more relaxed Hawaiian style setting than the huge and formal Iolani Palace encouraged. The armory is where the Royal Hawaiian Guard was located. In case of aggression their only purpose was to protect the royal family and palace. For this event the armory was open and there was live Hawaiian music, food and alcohol available for purchase.

The front gates. There is a large gate of a size that carriages could pass through then a smaller gate on either side for foot traffic.
 The gate crest.
Me standing in front of the front gates of Iolani palace at night.

I am so fortunate to have had this opportunity to see so much of Iolani Palace, and especially at night with the lights lit.

Aloha!
